To achieve this goal, Lourenço Castanho offers the following:
We offer English from Early Childhood Education through High School and Spanish from 6th to 9th grade.
Our courses are part of our curriculum based on the standards established by the MEC, incorporating social practices and authentic language experiences through texts (oral, written, visual, and multimedia).
Curricular courses that provide an authentic and in-depth language experience up to twice a week.
The English Programme is a program aimed at developing proficiency in the English language, as well as expanding students’ intercultural repertoire.
With the diversity of topics covered and an appropriate space for experimentation, students have the opportunity to experience learning creatively, exploring ways to express themselves and develop as speakers of the English language.
The activities in the English Programme are organized around Interdisciplinary Projects, following international standards. This methodology encompasses a series of projects with diverse themes supported by issues relevant to contemporary times, enabling our students to discover new possibilities to create and intervene in their reality.
Students learn about different subjects mediated by the English language, consolidating their linguistic skills.
Constant encouragement of authorship and creativity. Opportunities for experimentation through various forms of cultural and artistic expression.
Approximation of scientific knowledge mediated by the English language, fostering curiosity, observation, and investigation.
Students from 6th grade to the 1st year of high school are introduced to German culture through:
• Language classes up to twice a week in the afternoon;
• Engagement with cultural opportunities offered by the Institute, including exhibitions, musical performances, lectures on various cultural topics, and current affairs;
• Use of the Goethe-Institut's virtual and physical library;
• Application for the Studienkolleg, a preparatory course prior to undergraduate studies at German universities.
The International Baccalaureate Organization is a non-profit educational organization, founded in 1968 in Switzerland by the most renowned international educators of the time.
One IB Global School is aligned with more than 5,000 institutions from different countries, which share a common philosophy of creating a better world through international education committed to academic excellence.
As an IB Global Schoolwe offer our High School students at Vila Nova Conceição the option of taking the Brazilian curriculum integrated with the IB, also called the Diploma Programme (DP).
The DP is a balanced and academically challenging program, with rigorous assessment, that prepares students for success in higher education while encouraging them to become active citizens in an increasingly global society. The program is respected by the best universities in the world, including in Brazil.
The College Counseling department is the school’s reference point for students interested in studying abroad.
Counseling aims to guide students so that they discover their aptitudes and preferences and build an educational pathway that develops an academic profile aligned with the requirements of their chosen field.
To assist students in this process of defining their preferences and aptitudes, we also rely on educational counselors to advise them, helping not only with deciding what they want but also guiding them through all the steps involved in the process.
In addition, Counseling involves the constant participation of the student’s family so that we can understand and, whenever possible, meet the expectations of all parties involved.
The exchange program is a process that fosters young people’s development, providing a set of diverse experiences that include language improvement, cultural exchange, and living with people outside their family and social circle.
The NOEE (Study Abroad Guidance Center), in partnership with specialized institutions, also recommends short-term exchange alternatives, with the aim of providing families the opportunity to diversify the types of experiences throughout students’ schooling.
In Early Childhood Education, at Vila Nova Conceição, in the morning period, we offer classes structured either in Portuguese or in two languages: English and Portuguese. Families must choose one of the two options.
In the afternoon period, we offer the English Programme of Early Childhood Education, on an optional basis.
At our Alto da Boa Vista unit, in the morning period, we currently offer only the English structure.
In the Early Years, during the morning period, we have three curricular English classes per week as part of our curriculum. We also offer the option for students to take the English Programme in the afternoon to deepen their English studies.
Just like in the Early Years, students in the Final Years have access to curricular English three times a week and to the English Programme in the afternoon. In addition, in the afternoon, students also have access to the Certificate Programme, where they are guided and prepared to take the DELE exam, which certifies their level of proficiency in the Spanish language.
Students have access to all the highlighted programs: curricular English, pathways in English and Spanish, English Programme and Certificate ProgrammeIn High School, our students have the option of taking the Brazilian curriculum integrated with the IB Diploma Programme(DP), which mandatorily includes the curricular component English B Higher Level and the optional curricular component Spanish B Standard Level.
