OUR WAY OF EDUCATING
Educating for today and preparing for the future is a challenging and ongoing task. It is both possible and necessary to address these two times.
It requires recognizing that each student is unique and learns from what they experience—not just from what they “hear about.”
It requires creating a school environment that is respectful, creative, connected with the world, and values education in all its details, as it is a collective endeavor that, for us, should integrate intellectual, social-emotional, and physical development.
It requires educators who never stop learning, in order to spark curiosity, build knowledge, foster healthy habits, and encourage social bonds, among other skills, in children and young people.
It requires preparing for a better world, which for us means fostering autonomous, creative, ethical, critical, and compassionate citizens who can understand it with an intercultural perspective and act responsibly for its development.
A Lourenço Castanho It believes that, to achieve all this, one must continue learning and challenging oneself throughout life, giving full attention and listening to each student and to the world.
IB Seal
The seal IB - International Baccalaureate -
Refers to a program that offers an internationally accepted qualification, including for admission to higher education, recognized by top universities worldwide, including in Brazil.
In 2020, after a thorough evaluation process, LC - Vila Nova Conceição became an IB Global School and, in 2021, joined the Diploma Programme, aimed at high school students. In 2023, LC - Alto da Boa Vista achieved the same milestones.

Our students are and will be prepared, regardless of the assessment format.
For 3rd-year high school students, college entrance exams represent an important challenge, as the tests have very different characteristics and requirements. To support and empower our students to face this period with resilience, we offer an additional course focused on enrichment and review.
The classes are held starting in March during the afternoon. All teachers have extensive experience with pre-university exam preparation and design their lessons specifically for Lourenço Castanho, taking into account the School’s curriculum, the books studied in Literature classes, the exams students plan to take, and their specific requirements. The classes follow a format typical of college entrance exam preparatory courses.
Scientific project
The pedagogical and educational project of Lourenço Castanho School values the integral education of its students, seeking the development of autonomy, social responsibility, and commitment to the various academic and scientific fields.
One of the pillars supporting Lourenço Castanho’s pedagogical project is the Scientific Project, an initiative that introduces High School students to the world of scientific research. Started in 2013 as elective courses, today it is mandatory for all High School students and is recognized by the entire School community for its academic rigor and formative potential, as it provides students with the acquisition of new knowledge and challenges young learners to think logically and ethically about everyday facts and to propose interventions for solving contemporary world problems.
The Scientific Project lasts three semesters and follows the steps below:

English Programme
With the diversity of topics covered and an appropriate space for experimentation, students have the opportunity to experience learning creatively, exploring ways to express themselves and develop as speakers of the English language.
Two main pillars organize the activities in the English Programme: Language Arts and Nature & Society.
Constant encouragement of authorship and creativity. Opportunities for experimentation through various forms of cultural and artistic expression.
Approximation of scientific knowledge mediated by the English language, fostering curiosity, observation, and investigation.
Counseling
Pedagogical and vocational guidance. Pedagogical, vocational, and professional guidance is a concern of Lourenço Castanho, and it takes place in various ways within the Brazilian curriculum area.
Counseling aims to guide students so they can discover their aptitudes and preferences, build an educational pathway that more efficiently enables entry into their chosen field, especially in the case of universities abroad.
The counseling department also guides and prepares students according to their needs for international application processes, such as essay writing and proficiency exams like TOEFL, SAT, ACT, and others.
In addition, we meet with families, personalizing this guidance according to their plans, financial situation, and more.
University Connection
The University Connection is a program developed for students and parents from 5th grade of Elementary School to 3rd year of High School at Lourenço Castanho.
It is an opportunity for the family to learn more about attending a university abroad, the application process, and how to secure the much-desired spot. Throughout the school year, there are several initiatives, such as lectures, mock international exams, and personalized support to answer questions, among others.
International Experience
We consider exchange programs a process that fosters the development of young people,
providing a set of diverse experiences that include language improvement, cultural exchange, and living with people outside their family and social circles. NOEE, in partnership with specialized institutions, recommends short-term exchange alternatives, with the intention of offering families the opportunity to diversify the types of experiences throughout the students’ schooling.
PROJECTS
Interculturality holds a central position in our projects. By conducting interdisciplinary investigations on a variety of topics and delving into issues relevant to contemporary times, our students find new possibilities to create and intervene in their reality.
