IB DIPLOMA PROGRAME

The seal IB – International Baccalaureate It is a program that offers an internationally accepted qualification for admission to higher education, recognized by top universities worldwide, including in Brazil.
In 2020, after a thorough evaluation process, LC - Vila Nova Conceição became an IB Global School and, in 2021, joined the Diploma Programme, aimed at high school students. In 2023, LC - Alto da Boa Vista achieved the same milestones.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Our exchange program encompasses language improvement, cultural exchange, and living with people outside the family and social circle. It includes the NOEE (Study Abroad Guidance Center), which, in partnership with specialized institutions, recommends exchange alternatives for students and families.
COLLEGE COUNSELING
A group of specialists within the school that guides students interested in studying abroad and, with the participation of the family, builds a tailor-made educational pathway.
Life project
The Life Project is part of the High School Educational Guidance program, and its proposal is essentially linked to the student’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development, as well as to the dynamics established within groups.
In a multicultural world, permanently connected and undergoing profound transformation, living with people and diverse forms of knowledge is considered by us as fundamental for the student to discover more about themselves, to recognize their potential and needs, and, from there, to create their own tools to develop their Life Project, attributing meaning to different contexts and responding to the demands of their educational and formative process.
The projects developed in the construction of the Life Project seek to value students’ uniqueness, so that they become critical readers of the reality in which they live, authors of their own achievements, and take ownership of them.
From the presented perspective, three axes were considered as structuring elements to support the work of Educational Guidance and the consequent construction of the Life Project: self-knowledge, interpersonal relationships, and personal projects. The definition of each of these axes theoretically and practically sustains the Life Project and encourages a set of attitudes, procedures, and essential actions so that our students can develop in the most autonomous, ethical, and productive way possible, with a desire to overcome challenges and face the difficulties inherent to school life. It is based on these axes that we structure the Life Project program, which includes Educational Guidance classes, individual meetings with coordinators and counselors, an individual Career Guidance program, meetings with alumni, a Career Fair, and an autobiographical project. All these initiatives help young people to reflect on their life story, their current context, and, from there, their future expectations.

LC College Admissions
ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Our students are and will be prepared, regardless of the assessment format.
The classes are held starting in March during the afternoon. All teachers have extensive experience with pre-university exam preparation and design their lessons specifically for Lourenço Castanho, taking into account the School’s curriculum, the books studied in Literature classes, the exams students plan to take, and their specific requirements. The classes follow a format typical of college entrance exam preparatory courses.

Scientific project
The pedagogical and educational project of Lourenço Castanho School values the integral education of its students, seeking the development of autonomy, social responsibility, and commitment to the various academic and scientific fields.
One of the pillars supporting Lourenço Castanho’s pedagogical project is the Scientific Project, an initiative that introduces High School students to the world of scientific research. Started in 2013 as elective courses, today it is mandatory for all High School students and is recognized by the entire School community for its academic rigor and formative potential, as it provides students with the acquisition of new knowledge and challenges young learners to think logically and ethically about everyday facts and to propose interventions for solving contemporary world problems.
The Scientific Project lasts three semesters and follows the steps below:

Based on the school’s proposals, our students learn that forming opinions depends on solid reasoning and that solving practical problems requires strong theoretical knowledge. Media education – from print to digital –, language education, and literary training, consistently contextualized within the curriculum, pose the challenge of engaging and positioning oneself responsibly in the face of issues in a globalized world. In this sense, internationally recognized education and certification – such as the IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate), which began at Lourenço Castanho in 2021 – further broaden the scope of their choices for their lives and careers.
In High School, our students establish a more systematic, analytical, and in-depth relationship with knowledge, grounded in four key points: consolidation and structuring of concepts developed in all curricular components, so that our students exercise their individual decision-making ability and achieve their goals in post-High School exams; development of the original Scientific Project, with a more systematic and demanding critical stance, along with strengthening social responsibility and academic skills; construction of the Life Project, based on self-knowledge, autonomy development, and the formation of individual patterns of conscious and ethical choices, with a broader understanding of historical reality; education for citizenship and sustainability, aimed at training individuals who value and preserve the community and the environment.
At the end of High School, our goal is for Lourenço Castanho students to be prepared for their journey into adult life, as compassionate individuals, responsible citizens, and professionals capable of questioning and transforming the world.
LC DIGITAL

New technologies represent a complex challenge in the education of children and young people. The digital world has brought forth possibilities never before imagined, to the point of establishing, for example, a network of connections that simulates human thought. Therefore, it becomes essential that our students take ownership of this new universe, which is increasingly present in society.
The proposal of Lourenço Castanho aims at the technological literacy of our students, with shared learning, information exchange, and co-creation of content. However, in Early Childhood Education, we take care to ensure that this learning does not replace the experiences that guide individual development, especially at this early stage of life.
From Elementary School onwards, the presence of technology intensifies and students have access to the Creation Laboratory, consisting of 3 production and creation environments: low-tech and high-tech.

Makerspace
Workshop for building and prototyping projects, using manufacturing with different materials: wood, plastics, cardboard, electronic equipment, among others;

Hackerspace
Space dedicated to the production and creation of electronic and digital devices, involving educational robotics and different programming languages;

Fablab
Laboratory for the production of digital and multimedia artifacts, using production and editing software, a 3D printer, and a laser cutter.

LC CULTURE & ARTS
We understand that the teaching and learning of Art at Lourenço Castanho, from Early Childhood Education to High School, is focused on acquiring and mastering a sensitive system aimed at enhancing students' expressive and communication skills.
From the perspective of being a language, used in its specificity or in articulation with others, Art is, therefore, another language in dialogue with the rest, contributing to a continuous experience that connects knowledge (practical or theoretical) with aesthetic perception (senses) and the exercise of critique (reflection).
In High School, the development of art is a language of complementary importance to the sciences. In the curriculum, the linguistic approach, photography, and cinema reveal their significance, and in the electives, theater plays a strategic role.
